Holy insects

What in the world is going on here:

And here, the fattest caterpillar I've ever seen:

  1. In the top photo, those are eggs that a parasitic wasp has laid on the back of that caterpillar. The eggs will hatch and the wasp larvae will burrow into the caterpillar and eat it from the inside out. Splendid, eh?

  2. Splendid, indeed. These wasps are beneficial insects that stop destructive pests from ruining your crop... Why can't that wasp spread the love around to all of the leaf-eaters on my tomato plants?
